Sophie is a British artist and designer painting patterns by hand to create original linen cloth and wallpapers. Inspired by botanical forms, modernist art, European travels and antique finds - her fresh freehand style brings a relaxed and storied aesthetic to interiors.
Sophie's Story
Sophie grew up in the English west country. When she wasn't drawing, crafting or exploring outdoors, she would help her mother spread bolts of Laura Ashley or Liberty cloth across the kitchen table to make curtains and clothes. Her earliest memory is of a dainty floral wallpaper in their Victorian home.
After studying in Sussex, Sophie's creative career began at London's V&A Museum and served to confirm her deep love of modernist art and decorative design. She then went back to art school in Bristol, gaining an MA Graphic Arts in 2012, specialised in print.
An archive of hand-painted patterns evolved over the next few years, while Sophie designed for interiors brands and took on illustration commissions. But it wasn't until having her daughter in lockdown that a moment to reflect led Sophie to relaunch her eponymous studio in 2022 with a fresh focus on painting prints for beautiful, sustainable wallpapers and linen.
Drawing together her passion for paint, pattern, history and home, Sophie's work is known for a relaxed aesthetic, joy found in nature and her signature loose, hand-painted style.
Sustainably made in England
With both nature and craft as inspirations for Sophie’s designs, she wanted to produce them in ways that honour this. Sophie's papers and cloth are all printed by skilled artisans in England, drawing from generations of expertise, yet pioneering sustainable printing today.
Sophie uses 100% linen - one of the most sustainable fabrics available. Being made from Flax in Europe which grows organically in rainwater and even improves the soil around it. Her wallpapers are made from replenished forests. Both materials being natural, are also biodegradable. We print with eco inks and only use processes with the lowest posible water consumption.
Sophie's cushions and lampshades are handmade in small batches, making use of every inch of fabric and wallpaper, to create joyful interior accessories.
Press, partners & awards
Sophie's work has featured across the press and her first wallpapers won a Homes & Gardens Design Award in 2023. She has also partnered with a selection of creative companies who share her ethos. In 2025 Sophie exhibited at London Design Week and joined international showrooms for the first time.
