Florence linen - shell

I wanted to play with the kind of close-knit pattern used in the arts and crafts movement - but to paint it with a more spontaneous hand and create a contrast. Florence is the result.

As with all my prints, this design can be recreated in different colourways on request. Here I have chosen a delicious chocolate brown and plaster-pink, on a cream background. This is a petite print that works well as a background and a reference point to other art or pattern around a room.

The natural linen base cloth is a warm creamy colour. The subtle design works with all kinds of pale / putty pinks and browns. Try 'Setting Plaster' by Farrow & Ball or Edward Bulmer's 'Jonquil'. I also like Mylands' 'London Brown'.

How to calculate wallpaper

Our wallpaper rolls measure 52cm x 10 metres. This means each roll covers approximately 5 metres square.

To work out how much you need, measure the width and height of each wall, one at time. Multiply the two dimensions. (Ignore doors and windows because it's always better to have some paper spare than not enough, especially when working around features like these).

So for example, the first of 4 walls in a room is H3m x W5m = 15m square. Then divide that by 5 and discover you need 3 rolls for this wall.

Continue this for each wall until you have a total for the room.

Now! This part is vital - you now need to add on an extra 20%. Let's say the room was 60m square in total. You calculated 12 rolls of wallpaper required - and now you need to add another 2-3 rolls to this total.

Why? There is quite a bit of room for error with wallpapering and it's much better safe than sorry. Some paper it lost while matching up the pattern or papering around architectural features.

We hope this helps and please contact us with any questions.

How to wash and care for linen

Shrinkage will occur if you machine-wash pure linen and it is recommended as dry clean only - particularly once curtains or furnishings have been 'made to measure' as their shape and size may change.

Sponge clean any spills and use gentle soaps if necessary. If you do choose to wash linen, do so on a very cool temperature, by hand. If you are sewing fabric into curtains or homewares and wish to wash it, do so before you cut the cloth, because shrinkage will occur.

Note that cut or washed fabric is non-returnable.

A household steamer or gentle iron helps to reduce creases. We believe some light rumples are the part of the beauty of natural cloth.

Linen is a very durable natural material that will gently soften over time and take on a beautifully 'lived' look that we love.
